 Canada offers various immigration pathways to hire skilled workers from India, Express Entry is the most popular. With a quick processing time of months, Express Entry is the preferred pathway for most skilled professionals to apply for permanent residence in Canada. To qualify for this program, applicants are required to meet the minimum points requirement in the Canada 67 points calculator.

Minimum points required by skilled workers for Canada PR

To immigrate to Canada, skilled workers from India need to obtain 67 points (out of 100) in the 67-point calculator. This does not guarantee a Canada PR Visa but only makes you eligible to apply. 

Factors affecting your Canada PR points

 1. Age

Candidates between the ages of 18 and 35 are given the maximum points i.e. 12. After the age of 35, you start to lose points with each passing year and once you reach 45, no more points are awarded. 

2. Education

A maximum of 25 points can be achieved under the education factor with a doctorate or Ph.D. The point is – the higher your degree is, the more points you can snag for a Canada PR visa from India. For foreign educational credentials, you need to get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) certificate from a recognized assessing body.

3. Work Experience

The more years of work experience you have, the higher your PR points will be. A maximum of 15 points are available for this factor. You get points for having worked full-time for paid employment and an equal amount of part-time work. 

4.  Language Proficiency 

If you want to get the full 24 points in the 67-point calculator for language skills, get 6 bands in the English language test, the minimum IELTS score for Canada PR. An additional 04 points are awarded to candidates who show French language proficiency.

5. Arranged Employment

If you can secure a valid job offer from an eligible employer in Canada, you get 10 extra points added to your profile. This may help you acquire points you lose in other factors. Condition is you need to get a job offer that is at least 1 year long and is offered before you arrive in Canada as a federal skilled worker from India.

6. Adaptability 

If you have close relatives or siblings living in Canada, you can acquire 10 additional points for Canada PR. 


If you do not meet the minimum points required for Canada PR, do this: 

  • Get a job offer

  • Apply for a provincial nominee program

  • Work on your language skills

  • Take the language test again

  • Get more educational credentials assessed (If applicable)

After your file has been approved, a Passport Request will be sent to you by IRCC, for which you need to submit your passport along with other documents to get a visa stamp to enter Canada.
