How to Move to Canada with Low CRS Score?

Moving to Canada is the easiest through Canada’s Express Entry Program. This immigration program first checks your eligibility using the Canada 67 points calculator, based on age, education, work experience, and more. Once you qualify & enter the Express Entry pool, it again checks your CRS score.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a point-based ranking system used by IRCC to rank candidates as per their profile and give them CRS scores. The higher the score, the more chances you have of getting selected for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

All said, getting an ITA is competitive. Therefore, you need a high score. Sometimes, low CRS can get in the way of you and your dreams, leading to frustration. Do not worry as there are ways to boost your CRS score and move to Canada as a permanent resident.

Canada PR through Provincial Nominee Programs With Low CRS Score

Another way to get higher scores is to apply for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). If you are able to get a nomination, 600 points will be awarded to you, guaranteeing an ITA in the next Express Entry draw.

The Canadian provinces have the right to nominate candidates according to the demanding occupations and other requirements. This makes it easy for individuals with relevant qualifications and experience to get nominated.

Popular PNPs you can consider applying for:

  • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

  • Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)

  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)

  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

  • Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)

  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)

How to Apply?

You can apply for a Provincial Nominee Program in two ways -

Via PNP

Live and work in a province by applying through its specific PNP. To apply, follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Choose the province you wish to apply for directly.

Step 2: Submit the application

Step 3: Let the province review your application based on their set criteria

Step 4: If you meet their criteria, you’ll receive a nomination letter

Step 5: Based on your nomination criteria, apply for PR through the federal government.

Via Express Entry

You can also apply for PNP via an Express Entry profile. Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Check your eligibility and create an Express Entry profile.

Step 2: Enter the Express Entry pool and let the Canadian provinces see your profile in the pool as they pick candidates for nomination from there often.

Step 3: If you get selected, receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the Express Entry stream of that specific province’s PNP.

Other ways to increase your CRS score for Canada PR from India:

  • Completing a post-graduate degree

  • Working on your language and getting the minimum IELTS score for Canada PR

  • Gaining more work experience

  • Applying for a Canada Study Visa

  • Getting a temporary job in Canada

Express Entry VS PNP - Which is Better?

Express Entry is no doubt the most preferred method to apply for Canada PR and settle there. It decides the score based on your age, work experience, language proficiency, educational qualifications, and other relevant factors. If you meet the criteria, you get an ITA from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

But if you don’t wish to meet the minimum CRS score, you can apply for PNP - the next best option to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from IRCC.

With that being said, the Canadian provinces also invite applicants from the Express Entry pool under the Express Entry stream of Canada PNP - based on score and eligibility.

Now the decision is yours!

Minimum points required by skilled workers for Canada PR

To immigrate to Canada, skilled workers from India need to obtain 67 points (out of 100) in the 67-point calculator. This does not guarantee a Canada PR Visa but only makes you eligible to apply.

Factors affecting your Canada PR points

 1. Age

Candidates between the ages of 18 and 35 are given the maximum points i.e. 12. After the age of 35, you start to lose points with each passing year and once you reach 45, no more points are awarded.

2. Education

A maximum of 25 points can be achieved under the education factor with a doctorate or Ph.D. The point is – the higher your degree is, the more points you can snag for a Canada PR visa from India. For foreign educational credentials, you need to get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) certificate from a recognized assessing body.

3. Work Experience

The more years of work experience you have, the higher your PR points will be. A maximum of 15 points are available for this factor. You get points for having worked full-time for paid employment and an equal amount of part-time work.

4.  Language Proficiency

If you want to get the full 24 points in the 67-point calculator for language skills, get 6 bands in the English language test, the minimum IELTS score for Canada PR. An additional 04 points are awarded to candidates who show French language proficiency.

Additional Points

5. Arranged Employment

If you can secure a valid job offer from an eligible employer in Canada, you get 10 extra points added to your profile. This may help you acquire points you lose in other factors. Condition is you need to get a job offer that is at least 1 year long and is offered before you arrive in Canada as a federal skilled worker from India.

6. Adaptability

If you have close relatives or siblings living in Canada, you can acquire 10 additional points for Canada PR.

If you do not meet the minimum points required for Canada PR, do this:

  • Get a job offer

  • Apply for a provincial nominee program

  • Work on your language skills

  • Take the language test again

  • Get more educational credentials assessed (If applicable)

What’s next?

Doing one or more of these will definitely make you eligible for a Canada PR visa from India. Go ahead and create an Express Entry profile and enter the pool.

Here, your profile will again be ranked using a point system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) against other potential candidates.

IRCC conducts regular draws and invites candidates who meet the CRS score range. The higher your CRS is, the more chances you have of success. If you get selected, IRCC will send you an Invitation to Apply (ITA) after which you have to submit a complete application for a Canada PR visa.

Get your medical exam and security clearance done in the meantime. For biometrics, IRCC will send you a notification.

Express Entry processes the PR applications within 6 months. So, if IRCC requests any additional documents during your application processing, fulfil them immediately to avoid delays.

After your file has been approved, a Passport Request will be sent to you by IRCC, for which you need to submit your passport along with other documents to get a visa stamp to enter Canada.
